Tummy tuck surgery can create a smoother, flatter tummy
Many of our patients enquiring about Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) are concerned with loose skin, stretch marks and fat bulges in the stomach area following pregnancy and weight loss. Regardless of dieting and exercise, sometimes these issues cannot be resolved. This is often due to weak or separated abdominal muscles as a result of pregnancy, these muscles need to be surgically repaired to improve the appearance of the tummy. People may also gain a over-hanging tummy for a variety of reasons like weight fluctuations, pregnancy and changes in lifestyle.
A Tummy Tuck procedure can create a smoother, flatter tummy by removing excess fat and skin, and improving the contours of the abdomen with liposcupture. Medici Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery offers highly experienced and skilled plastic surgeons, outstanding patient care, and a personal experience within a small team of dedicated staff who are there to help you at every stage.

The tummy tuck procedure
Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) patients are required to stay in hospital for 2-4 nights, depending on the extent of the procedure. Mini tummy tucks involving muscle repair and skin tightening don’t require an extensive hospital stay, but a more extensive standard abdominoplasty surgery will require further care and the assistance of experienced medical staff.
A horizontal incision is made across the pubic area and the skin is separated from the muscle wall to allow the surgeon to repair the abdominal muscles that may have separated. When this has been performed, your surgeon will remove excess skin and fat, tightening the skin of the abdominal area. A new bellybutton is created back in the position it should be, and liposculpture often accompanies the procedure the improve the shape and contour of the area.
Your incision(s) are closed used stitches and a dressing is applied. A compression garment is to be worn for around 6 weeks and normal movement will be limited for around 2 weeks.
Recovery from a tummy tuck in Melbourne
We suggest patients take 3 weeks off work to allow enough time to recover from their Tummy Tuck surgery, as it can take up to a month to regain most of your movement back. Strenuous exercise is to be avoided for up to 2 months after your Tummy Tuck surgery, but light exercise (walking) is recommended after the first week. Driving should be avoided for 2-3 weeks or until you feel comfortable enough with your level of movement. It is suggested that any young children have an alternate carer during the first 2 weeks post-surgery as carrying/lifting children will not be possible during this time.
Abdominoplasty surgery does involve some significant risks that should be considered prior to surgery, while these risks are all rare, they can occur in some cases. In the event that a complication arises, our surgeons will perform revision surgery to correct any issues.
