Because the ears reach 90% of its adult size by age five or six, children with prominent ears can have them corrected before starting Prep. This is when children may become self conscious about their ears because other children might tease or bully them about their big ears.

The post-operative improvement in a child’s self-confidence can be absolutely dramatic.

Otoplasty is performed as day surgery and a whole head bandage is worn for two weeks after surgery. Most children find their post operative phase relatively free of discomfort. Our Plastic Surgeon, Anaesthetist and nursing team are very sensitive to a child’s potential anxiety and we pay special attention to making sure the child feels safe and relaxed throughout the pre-operative, operative and post-operative phases.
